KT and SBS Provide First 5G-Live Streaming for 21th National Election in Korea

KT (Korea Telecom), the largest and first telephone company in S. Korea, has announced that it is providing a premium live broadcasting solution with its 5G network for the upcoming Korean national election on April 15th.

Up until now, live broadcastings have been delivered either by satellite devices (SNG; Satellite News Gathering) or MNG (Mobile News Gathering) based on the 4G/LTE network; however, this live event will be the very first streaming that relies on the 5G network with MNG devices nationwide.

The high point of KT’s offering is its new 5G-Premium QoS solution, which secures the best quality and stable network for the B2B market.

KT’s Premium QoS technology provides a guaranteed network from a congested environment by prioritizing data in a certain order. Including broadcast stations, factories, and hospitals where there is great attention to their system monitoring and security, this technology is beneficial as it maintains important data transmission without any loss or failure.

Utilizing the advantages of KT’s 5G solution, SBS is going to live stream from various vote locations and major candidate offices where network congestion is inevitable. The other tool for them to achieve this premium 5G broadcasting is the MNG device itself, provided by LiveU, who concluded an MOU (memorandum of understanding) with KT in 2019.

Jinwoo Lee, director of KT’s business service division, said that they are very proud to offer this high-quality live broadcasting with their Premium QoS service and will be continuing to provide the most stable network for data deliveries and media services.
